WindCoE - Nordic Wind Energy Center
Project description
With the developed competence center, it is possible to deal with wind energy issues in cold climates from a multidisciplinary perspective and work on these issues will facilitate the sustainable development of wind power in the Nordic countries. Advances in passive ice accretion materials and airfoil designs will be incorporated into future designs of wind turbine blades to allow accommodation for the cold environment effects. Knowledge in understanding the Nordic atmosphere's effect on wind turbine source acoustics and its propagation will be implemented in noise modeling software to allow more accurate estimates of wind turbine acoustics in the future. The long term results will affect wind energy profitability and social acceptance simultaneously. In this way, WindCoE is poised to improve the relationship between the wind industry and the societies of the Nordic countries in a positive way. The center will move into its next phase by identifying the most significant issue requiring technological change and public understanding in the wind industry's future.
