LYSTRA - AWARENESS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE WORLD NATURAL HERITAGE SITE HIGH COAST/KVARKEN ARCHIPELGO

In the Lystra project Sweden and Finland would jointly further develop the World Heritage Site High Coast/Kvarken Archipelago to enhance the sites accessibility and attractiveness for inhabitants, entrepreneurs and visitors.

The hilly landscape of the High Coast with its high islands, steep shores, smooth cliffs, bedrock outcrops and deep inlets is the complete opposite to the many thousands of low-lying islands in the Kvarken Archipelago with stony islets, shallow bays, deep moraine deposit, moraine ridges and vast boulder fields. During thousands of years have Ice Ages, land up lift, waves and sea-ice impacted heavily on the landscape and these traces and processes was the reason for including the High Coast/Kvarken Archipelago on the World
Heritage List. Parks & Wildlife Finland and County of Västernorrland in Sweden are responsible for the management of the site.
