Midway Alignment Botnia-Atlantica (MABA)

In the Kvarken region, EU funding was granted for phase I of the TEN-T project in the Kvarken region. The aim was to improve the Kvarken connection by developing a new specially adapted ferry for Kvarken and make the ports and the regional logistics system more efficient and environmentally friendly. The MABA project was an important complement to the Midway Alignment and strengthened the conditions for achieving the region's common goal: to create a functioning and environmentally friendly infrastructure in the east-west direction. Within the project, documentation was developed for the connection to the TEN-T network, while at the same time it contributed to spreading knowledge and anchoring the Kvarken line with the municipalities in the Bothnia-Atlantica region and key players in the Baltic Sea region.

Resultat:

Projektet MABA har bidragit till det programspecifika målet ”Ökat antal strategier kring hållbara öst-västliga transportlänkar” bl.a. genom att man lyft TEN-T problematiken på nationell och EU-nivå, analyserats de finansiella förutsättningarna och den ekonomiska bärigheten för en investering i form av en ny färja (genom Financial Engineering pre-study och Detailed Financial Engineering study), analyserat den nationalekonomiska genomslagskraften av en färjeinvestering (genom Impact Analysis), inlett hittills oprövade samarbete med Mittnordenkommittén, företag i Kvarkenregionen och näringslivsorganisationer i Narvik, samt genom projektets extensiva
informationsarbete på nationell och EU-nivå, vilket gett regionens transportproblematik stor
uppmärksamhet.
